Diamond Powerboard v1.6

This repository contains the source and production files for the Diamond Orb Powerboard PCB, as well as schematics and layouts in PDF format for easier viewing.

Note 1: This is an Allspice repository! That means Altium schematics and PCBs can be directly viewed within the repository!

Note 2: To produce a board, the "Fabrication" folder under "Production" should be sent to the board house. Also under "Production", the "Assembly" folder should be sent to the assembly house or SMT line. This folder contains the bill of materials (BOM) and placement information.

Overview

The Orb Powerboard is responsible for converting and distributing battery power through the device and providing the supplies for the various subsystems. Most connections are through the pin headers to the mainboard (described in the Mainboard repository), but the Reset Button FPC as well as the Front Unit Cable connect here as well - except for control signals (which pass through from the mainboard) the high power required to drive the illumination LEDs originates on this board.

In the below pictures, the various DC/DC converters and the connectors are illustrated. The supercapacitors are also clearly visible (x8 tall cylinders, which are actually orange parts as seen in the main page renderings of the device). For most of the regulators, the ICs are on the top of the board while the high-power components, such as FETs and inductors, are on the bottom side.

      1. Supercapacitor balancing circuits
      2. 3V3_UC, supply for main microcontroller (TPS62933 buck)
      3. Supercapacitor charger on +17V_CAPS (LM5176 buck-boost)
      4. +5V (LM25117 buck)
      5. +17V_CAPS to PVCC, power supply for IR LEDs (LM5122 boost)
      6. 3V3_SSD, supply for M.2 drive
      7. +12V_CAPS, main 12V rail generated from either VBat or +17V_CAPS (LM5176 buck-boost)
      8. Front Unit connector
      9. Reset Button connector

This is a 6-layer FR4 PCB.
